Movie Review - “Iron Man”
I was pleasantly surprised last night when I went to see “Iron Man”. Even with its cliched use of a military weapons supplier as the villain, it still held up. Robert Downey, Jr.’s performance was good. I think he has improved much over the last few years. See his performance in “Wonder Boys” and “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” and you will see the marked difference from his roles in “Less than Zero” and “The Pick-Up Artist”.
However, this is definitely a better movie to watch if you are into gadgets, really cool special effects, and science. I did not look at my watch once while viewing the film, but the obligatory montage where Downey is creating Iron Man does slow the movie down a little bit.
I also did not care much for Gwyneth Paltrow’s character Virgina “Pepper” Potts. Maybe she will have a more prominent place in the sequel and seem more integral to the plot.
Also, look for the Stan Lee cameo. It will give you a bit of a chuckle.
Lastly, I will mention that my favorite version of the “Iron Man” song was done by the Cardigans. Here is a link so you can listen to it yourself. “Love Fool” is also a great song! That Nina Persson is a real cutie!!
