The Intellectual’s Lament

Away with books!
Minerva’s spell is broken,
The mind imprisoned no more.

Drink, sate, live!
Let Bacchus now possess thee;
And, to frenzy drive!

Martial deeds,
For glory’s sake, perform
At Mars’ imperious command!

Reason and peace
No longer heed;
But, grasp and take thy fill!
